Kunzite is a beautiful and graceful stone with pink and purple hues. Constantly reminding us to look towards love and forgiveness, kunzite is there for any emotional needs. Pink Kunzite is often called the Woman’s Stone. It is particularly supportive for a young or first-time mother and for all single mothers, and assists human, as well as animal mothers who may have a hard time caring for their young. It is a good stone for sleepless babies and over-active children, and is an excellent gift for girls entering puberty to help them love their changing bodies

History and Lore

Kunzite was first found in the Pala Mountains near San Diego, California in 1902, although some sources claim it was found even earlier, in 1877. Kunzite received its name in 1903 in honor of George Frederick Kunz, an accomplished mineralogist. Not many gemstones can boast about being first discovered in America, but because of its discovery in California, Kunzite is considered an “American stone”. In addition to this, Kunzite is the American birthstone of September, according to the American birthstones calendar by Frederick Kunz.

Composition and Formation

Kunzite is a pink and purple variety of the mineral spodumene with a chemical composition of lithium aluminum silicate. The name spodumene comes from the Greek word “spodumenos” meaning “burnt to ashes”, which refers to the opaque, whitish-gray color spodumene can have before and during processing.

Manganese gives kunzite its pink coloration, which creates shades of lilac, cool lavender, hot fuchsia and rich orchid purple by candlelight. Kunzite can also be found with yellow coloration when traces of iron are present. Hiddenite, or green spodumene, is created when chromium is present in the composition of the stone

Cleansing / Charging

When the full moon comes along, charge your crystal in the light of it. This will help to release its feminine energy and infuse itself with ripe cosmic energies. In between full moon cycles, you might want to bury your stone in nutrient-rich soil, as this will encourage the delights of the earth to wash over it. In addition to this, it is important that you try to keep your gem away from direct sunlight. Too much exposure to the sun will result in the color of your stone fading.

Other than these two examples you can place your kunzite stone on some selenite or use sage / incense smoke to clear out the stuck energy.
