Opalite, a man-made version of opal is an artificial glass like crystal that has an array of beautiful colors. Even though it is man - made it has an abundance of wonderful healing properties and can be a more affordable alternative to opal. It’s own minerals that used to create opalite have their own healing properties, ones you may have never considered! The Egyptian pyramids, Athenian Acropolis, and Eiffel Tower are all man-made wonders. So, don’t worry so much about opalite’s synthetic aspect — is there fake opalite? Not in our eyes.
History
Natural opalite has been around for millions of years, but man-made opalite is much younger.
The first synthetic opal was created in 1972 by French chemist Pierre Gilson. An extensive study on the precious opal’s internal structure informed his creation. People loved it so much that Gilson’s gemstone commanded its own market demand, giving rise to its newer name “opalite.”
Composition and Formation
The opalite gemstone is an artificial crystal that imitates the traditional opal, composed mainly of glass and resin, or sometimes metal.
When it comes to opalite vs. opal hardness, is opalite stronger because of its glass-resin composition? No, the two stones aren't too different in hardness. Both hover around the 5.5-6 rankings on the Mohs mineral hardness scale.
You'll usually find opalite in milky shades of blue, lavender, soft pink, and sometimes green and yellow. Sounds like moonstone, right? The two might have a creamy-colored similarity, but moonstone is a feldspar stone with a slightly higher Mohs ranking.
The base for your average opalite stone is glass, with some metal. Gem-makers like to use glass with dolomite in its composition to better imitate the volcanic environment of traditional opal formation. The glass is melted with raw materials like resin, then cooled and solidified.
We know what your thinking, if opalite is man-made how can it have healing properties? Well you have to remember that the minerals that make it have their own benefits. Resin comes from plants, glass comes from sand and so forth. Even just those two things combined have wonderful healing benefits.

Chakras
Opalite primarily works with the crown and third eye chakras. Its link to the crown chakra allows you to understand yourself better and enhance your psychic abilities. The crown chakra is also home to your spiritual energies, so don't be alarmed if you feel your intuition increasing while using Opalite.
You may also use Opalite to open the third eye chakra, stimulating insight into life, the self and the wider reality within which we live. Opalite is great at clearing energy blockages in the chakras and meridians, but which chakras your specific Opalite benefits the most will depend largely upon its color.
Blue Opalite is more likely to stimulate the throat chakra which helps with communication. It lets you translate your true emotions into words in every situation, no matter how frightening it might seem.
Similarly to the blue variant, Green Opalite will be more beneficial for a different chakra: the heart. This increases loving energy in all its forms: self-love, romantic love, platonic love, etc. You can use this natural Opalite to take control over the heart and prevent mood swings from being a regular occurrence. It's a great stone to support relationships that are going through a rough patch.
Zodiac Signs
Opalite works amazingly well with the Cancer sign. People born under this sign tend to keep their emotions bottled up and let them explode after a while. With Opalite, they learn to express themselves freely without fear of punishment.
This stone aligns with Cancer's physical and spiritual energies. It stabilizes them and enables them to understand themselves on a deeper level better. With Opalite, Cancers can see their past, present, and future to decide what they're going to do next. They'll be able to see how each action will affect them in the long term.
Cleansing and Charging
Dont cleanse Opalite in water due to its tendency to dissolve after long term soaking
Moonlight – Place it under the Full Moon’s light and recite positive affirmations.
Smudging – Pass it through the smoke of burning sage or palo santo while meditating on its release of negative energy.
Sound – Place your Opalite next to a bell or singing bowl and play the bell or bowl for at least 2 minutes to let sound cleanse the stone.
Opal vs Real Opalite Vs Synthetic Opalite
There is a little confusion about synthetic and natural opalite, so we’re going to set the record straight here. Man-made opalite is a translucent to milky stone usually made of opalescent glass but sometimes made from plastic or resin. The stone also goes by glass opalite, argonon, or sea opal. In trade, the terms “synthetic,” “simulated,” or “imitation” may be used instead of “man-made.” At first glance, synthetic opalite appears colorless or white. Once the stone is against a dark background, a pale blue color emerges. Put it against a light background and you’ll see a white body tone with a subtle, peach-colored glow.
Can opalite be found naturally? Yes, but it’s a different stone than a precious opal. You won’t see the same fire and play-of-color that precious opals are famous for. But don’t rule out opalite just yet, because these gems have a lot to offer by way of affordability and beauty!
Opalite refers not only to man-made opal but also a form of common opal. Natural opalite isn’t man-made, but rather a naturally-occurring green or purple opal that’s heavily included and often shows chatoyancy (also known as a “cat’s eye effect.”)
